familywell Health Secures $8 Million to Expand Women’s Mental Healthcare Access
Meta Description: FamilyWell Health, a leading provider of integrated women’s mental healthcare, has raised $8 million in Series A funding to fuel national expansion and innovative AI solutions.
Women face disproportionately higher rates of mental health challenges, with statistics revealing they are twice as likely as men to experience depression and anxiety. approximately one in three women will experience a mental health condition during their lifetime. Recognizing this critical gap in care, FamilyWell Health is pioneering a new approach to women’s wellbeing by embedding mental health services directly within existing women’s healthcare practices.
The company’s model integrates a virtual team – including care managers, coaches, therapists, and psychiatric providers – into the workflows of OB/GYN offices and other women’s health providers. This ensures that mental healthcare is not an afterthought, but a standard component of a woman’s overall health journey. Importantly, the care offered by FamilyWell Health is covered by insurance, removing a significant barrier to access.
Last week, FamilyWell Health announced it had secured $8 million in Series A funding to accelerate its mission. The financing round was led by New Markets Venture Partners, with participation from.406 Ventures, GreyMatter capital, the Alix Foundation, The Donna Fund, and The Lee Foundation.
“FamilyWell is an ideal fit for New Markets’ mission to invest in evidence-based solutions that improve lives and expand access to life-saving care,” stated a representative from New Markets Venture Partners. “By integrating proven women’s mental health care into everyday clinical workflows, FamilyWell reduces suffering, strengthens family well-being, and helps parents return to work and thrive.”
The funding will primarily support FamilyWell Health’s national expansion, building upon its current presence in Massachusetts, New Hampshire, Connecticut, Illinois, and Texas. the company currently serves over 200,000 individuals. A key component of this expansion involves extending services to encompass perimenopause and menopause, recognizing that approximately 70% of women navigating these life stages experience mental health challenges such as anxiety, depression, insomnia, and cognitive changes.
Beyond expanding its clinical reach, FamilyWell Health will also invest in enhancing its artificial intelligence (AI) capabilities and growing the FamilyWell Academy. The Academy provides specialized training for healthcare providers in perinatal behavioral health and menopause behavioral health, equipping them with the tools to address the unique mental health needs of women throughout their lives.
According to Dr. Jessica Gaulton, founder and CEO of FamilyWell Health, women’s mental health needs have been historically “overlooked for far too long.” She highlighted the alarming statistics regarding screening rates for postpartum depression – fewer than 10% of Medicaid members and fewer than 4% of privately-insured members are screened – and the tragic reality that suicide is now the leading cause of maternal death during pregnancy and postpartum.
“This capital enables us to expand our integrated care model, accelerate AI innovation, and deepen collaborations that make timely, high-quality support possible,” Dr. Gaulton explained. “Through the FamilyWell Academy and together with our OB/GYN partners, we’re reshaping the standard of care and addressing one of the most critical health crises facing women today.”
FamilyWell Health is not alone in addressing this growing need. Other companies in the women’s mental health space include Mavida Health and Seven Starling. However, FamilyWell’s integrated approach, focusing on embedding care within existing healthcare systems, sets it apart.
