The first fans of British royalty began setting up camps this Sunday (30) outside Buckingham Palace, in London, to watch the coronation of King Charles III, next Saturday (6)
Among the most dedicated is John Loughrey, who was interviewed by the Reuters news network
He has set up camp on the pavement outside the famous palace equipped with a camp bed, and intends to remain there all week to ensure a good view of events on Saturday.
“We can’t wait to see them roll down the mall in their golden carriage,” Loughrey told Reuters
“We’ll all be cheering, doing the Mexican wave [coreografia conhecida no Brasil como “ola”] in red, white and blue [as cores da bandeira do Reino Unido]and singing ‘God Save the King and His Queen,'” he added.
Loughrey is a veteran of camping at real events and has done so many times over the years.
The coronation will include an invitation for the public to pledge allegiance to the monarch and his heirs and successors, said the office of the Archbishop of Canterbury, who will anoint Charles and Camilla.
Another royal fan spotted by Reuters on the outskirts of the palace was Joseph Afrane.
At the time, he wore clothes and accessories personalized with the flag of the United Kingdom.
Charles’s coronation will take place at Westminster Abbey, London’s oldest and most famous temple, which is just over a kilometer from Buckingham Palace
The ceremony will be attended by 2,000 guests, including heads of state, royalty from other monarchies and members of civil society.
Unlike his mother, the late Queen Elizabeth II, who, in 1953, was crowned in a three-hour ceremony with 8,000 guests and an 18th-century carriage, the king will have a simpler, more modern coronation.
The event will be limited to just over an hour and will feature a climate-controlled carriage, with air conditioning, electric windows and hydraulic suspension.
The four-wheel vehicle will travel 2.1 kilometers to reach Westminster Abbey
