Treated like spectators
Fathers are not to be treated as spectators while in hospital for birth. They are the right of caregivers – underlines Giusti -. Giusti is the scientific director for the ISS of the Parent project, funded by the European Commission to promote the role of paternal care and prevent male violence. Italy, Portugal, Austria, Lithuania took part in the project, which lasted from 2019 to 2021. We have been coordinated by the association Circle of men, on behalf of the network Il giardino dei fri (which includes five other organizations that deal with male identity and the fight against gender violence), and has provided for the training of 129 midwives, nurses, pediatricians and neonatologists, of the ASL of Reggio Emilia, Asl Roma 2, Asl Torino 4 and Asl Città di Torino. Everything offered to the mother also applies to the father, except for clinical tests, he stresses Alessandro Voltadirector of the Maternal and Child program of the Reggio Emilia health authority and trainer of the course.
