Meanwhile, the Tamil Nadu government has announced that it will send a team of MPs and officials to neighboring Ukraine to rescue Tamil Nadu students studying medicine in Ukraine.
Following this, a group of DMK MPs, including Siva, Abdullah and Kalanithi, met Foreign Minister Jaishankar in New Delhi yesterday to seek the federal government’s permission to travel to Ukraine’s neighboring countries. We met Foreign Minister Jaishankar to discuss the rescue of Indians. Jaisankar told us about the steps taken so far to rescue the Indians trapped there.
We also informed Jaisankar about the Tamil Nadu students there, the foreign officials who are said to speak only in Hindi. Jaisankar said he was giving instructions to the authorities in this regard. He engaged in additional flights and assured that all the Indians would be rescued soon. In this situation, the next step will be taken in consultation with the Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu, he said.
Commenting on the meeting, Foreign Ministry sources said that in the context of the war in Ukraine, foreign officials are being pressured. Already, four Union Ministers are staying in Ukraine’s neighboring countries to oversee the rescue operation. What can Tamil Nadu MPs do by going there?
