The Dávid Kornél KA band took to the dance floor for the third time in a week – almost in line with the international rhythm – and on Saturday the students of head coach Gergő Szentpáli had to prove themselves against a real big gun. And for the guests, the clash was also important because these forty minutes were considered the main test before the start of the European Cup against Bodrum Basketbol next week.

In the spring of 2014, the friends of Fehérvár basketball last saw the Sopron team in the final of the Hungarian Cup – albeit under a different name. In that match, the old rival PEAC-Pécs defeated the yellow-green team, but the following seasons were already about them both on the domestic and international stage.

The students of manager Dávid Gáspár, who previously also worked at Albacomp, came as a clear contender for the match, and they proved this already in the first attack, Zala Friskovec’s triple found its way into DKKA’s ring. The master of the hosts, Gergő Szentpáli, non-stop instructed his girls, who started a little nervous and reserved, but Katona Boglárka’s basket somewhat resolved this tension after 0-10. Sopron defended tightly, and its attacks mostly ended in scoring points, so it’s no wonder that the DKKA team asked for time in the 4th minute. This did not bring any significant change, the guests continued to produce points and three-pointers on an industrial scale, and by the 6th minute they already had twenty points, 2-22. The score could have been closer, but the home team was on the defensive with shots to the basket, although Gabriella Laufer scored points with a spectacular hook before the end of the quarter.
The second ten minutes started with Dávid Mia’s 2+1 points amid a big ovation from the audience, but the fans liked Makenna Marisa’s double at least as much. Although the difference of almost twenty points remained, DKKA’s game was visibly more collected, 17-35. In the continuation, under the leadership of Laufer, the hosts led several effective actions, although they were not able to reduce their disadvantage very much, as the purple jerseys were very effective under the backboard.
After the long break, DKKA tried to stay in momentum, cut down on their disadvantage and force their opponent to make mistakes. We saw several solutions to be celebrated from them, they were able to make the score tight, and they won the quarter with 11 points.
The closing ten minutes started with Marisa Makenna’s triple, while the game of the Sopronians became visibly nervous, although Klaudia Papp and Aliz Varga quickly prevented DKKA from getting within ten points, 57-74. Approaching the start, the guests changed gears and certainly won, but this does not detract from the fact that the DKKA team showed that it has potential and is destined for more.
