FGC puts out to tender the adaptation of the Martorell meter track space for educational visits
Ferrocarriles de la Generalitat de Catalunya, FGC, has put out to tender the works to adapt the historic vehicle preservation center ‘space of the meter track’ in Martorell to host visits from the Teaching Train.

The Martorell meter track space, which is located on the FGC Llobregat-Anoia line, will undergo adaptation to accommodate visits from schoolchildren within the framework of the Teaching Train program. The work, with an execution period of 17 weeks, has a budget of 329,000 euros and is scheduled to begin in the second quarter of this year.
The planned work will consist of the construction of a loft three meters high inside the warehouse, which will expand its useful surface. From this loft the vehicles will be seen from a higher height and exhibitions located there will be visited. In addition, to guarantee accessibility, two stairs and a ramp will be installed. The action also includes the urbanization of the exterior spaces of the building. At this point, the pavement at the entrance to the warehouse will be extended and a small picnic area will be equipped for school visits.
Once the works are completed, this space will be incorporated, during the next academic year, into the program of activities of the Teaching Train, an initiative with which the importance of the railway as a means of public transport is transmitted to schoolchildren.
Historical heritage of FGC
The Metric Track Space, located next to the Martorell Central station, houses around twenty locomotives, cars and wagons that served the Llobregat-Anoia line throughout the 20th century, both for travelers and goods, and which They witness the evolution of rail transport in Catalonia.
The implementation of new spaces for the preservation and exhibition of historical mobile material is one of the lines of work of the FGC Historical Heritage Strategy. The Metric Track Space, inaugurated at the beginning of last year, joins the other centers that FGC has set up in recent years, such as La Cochera de Rub, located in front of the old Rub station; The Valls historic train ship, in the Rub Operative Center; o El Muelle de la Pobla, at the La Pobla de Segur station.
