Today, Monday, the United Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO) in Iraq revealed field applications that led to improving the efficiency of water use in Iraq, while confirming that the government’s measures have a positive impact in increasing the production of wheat and other crops.

The organization’s representative in Iraq, Salah Al-Hajj Hassan, told the (INA): “The largest portion of the wheat crop is fully irrigated,” indicating that “the amount of rain that fell last year was relatively small, which led to complete reliance on irrigation.” .

He explained, “There is more than one method that has begun to be worked on, in addition to field applications in participation with the ministries of agriculture, water resources and the environment regarding surface irrigation, which is considered the most comprehensive at a certain stage and has been approved by farmers.”

He added, “These applications improved the efficiency of water use and saved about 30 percent of water,” noting that “mechanisms for approving and supporting sprinklers will increase the area that is supposed to rely on these technologies.”

He pointed out that “the use of roads and modern irrigation techniques increases the efficiency of the use of irrigation and surface irrigation, in addition to the government’s measures related to supporting and disseminating modern irrigation techniques, which can achieve results in the coming years, and have a positive impact in raising the level of water use efficiency and increasing the productivity of the wheat crop.” and other crops.”
