Finnish Minister of Foreign Trade and Development Phil Tavio announced on Friday that his country had resumed funding the United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees (UNRWA).

Tavio stated in a press conference, “UNRWA’s improvement of its risk management, that is, preventing and initiating close monitoring of misconduct, provides sufficient guarantees for us at this stage to continue our support,” noting that “some Finnish funds will be allocated to risk management.”

15 countries, most notably the United States, suspended the equivalent of more than half of the funds received by UNRWA in 2023.

Later, countries including Canada, Australia and Sweden returned their funding to UNRWA, while many Arab countries such as Saudi Arabia increased funding.
