17 people were killed in a fire at a restaurant in China on Wednesday.
Officials said: A fire broke out at a restaurant in Changshan Industrial Zone, Jilin Province on Wednesday at 12.40pm (local time).
17 people died in this accident; 3 are being treated in the hospital with gunshot wounds.
Officials said that the preliminary investigation revealed that the accident may have been caused by the explosion of cooking gas.
Fire deaths in China are often attributed to the poor design of buildings and lack of adequate safety measures. It is worth remembering that 53 people lost their lives in a fire in Changsha last April.
