Major fire in Flüelen – several people evacuated, one person was taken to hospital

A fire broke out in Flüelen on Saturday morning. This resulted in strong smell. Traffic is being rerouted.

On Saturday shortly before 7 a.m., the Uri cantonal police received a report of a fire in an apartment building on Kirchstrasse in Flüelen, as the police wrote in a media release. The building was already fully ablaze when emergency services arrived. The eight residents were able to get to safety on their own, and two people from the neighboring building were evacuated as a precaution. Due to suspected smoke poisoning, the emergency services looked after a person and then took him to the Uri Cantonal Hospital.

The apartment building was fully engulfed in flames.

According to the police, thanks to the rapid extinguishing efforts of the Flüelen fire department with the support of the Altdorf and Sisikon fire departments, the fire was quickly brought under control and finally completely extinguished. The cause of the fire and the amount of property damage are now the subject of police investigations.

Section of road remains closed

Shortly before lunchtime on Saturday, the cantonal police announced that Axenstrasse in the village of Flüelen in the area of ​​the fire would remain closed until further notice. The traffic diversion via the Flüelertunnel is signaled.

A total of 70 people from the Flüelen, Altdorf and Sisikon fire departments, the emergency services of the Uri, Nidwalden and Schwyz cantonal hospitals, Rega, the Uri Office for the Environment, Wastewater, the SBB, the Flüelen municipal management staff and the Uri cantonal police were on duty.
