Fires Italy, 110 thousand hectares burned since the beginning of the year

In Italy, since the beginning of the year, about 110,000 hectares of land have been burned, an area as large as 145,000 football fields: four times the average of 28,479 hectares burned every year from 2008 to 2020. So far in the Peninsula they are over 400 large fires (over 30 hectares) broke out, against an average of 224 in the period 2008-2020. The numbers are provided by the European forest fire information system (Effis) of the European Commission.

The Effis reveals that Europe is burning twice as fast as in previous years, with Greece and Italy leading this dramatic ranking. The toll of wild animals that have lost their lives amounts to about 2,000,000.
