BOLZANO. No one is too small to lend first aid. The children of approx 20 elementary schools in Alto Adige are experimenting it as part of a pilot project organized by White Cross and by the German Provincial Directorate of Education.
While the theoretical contents are covered with a book, the White Cross rescuers are responsible for the practical sessions in the classroom. The basis of the teaching concept is a book package developed by the White Cross together with the author Isabell Halbeisen and promoted by the German Education Directorate. The package includes a core book, individual workbooks for each grade level and a solution booklet for teachers.
«Our goal is to make children aware of the most important first aid measures. At this age, children are not only curious, but also extremely receptive to this content”, explains the president Alexander Schmid. The book package provides pedagogically sound guidance for teaching the subject. Teachers can prepare using the solutions booklet and then work on the learning objectives through short readings and exercises to carry out with students.
