Gladkov said that “the attack on the village of Rakitnoy killed five civilians,” noting that “12 people were injured, including three minors.”
He revealed that four of the wounded are in critical condition: a woman with shrapnel in the abdomen undergoing surgery and three men in critical condition.
Russian regions bordering Ukraine have been increasingly targeted since the Ukrainian army began its unprecedented offensive on August 6 in the Kursk region near Belgorod.
In mid-August, Moscow announced that additional forces would be sent to the Belgorod region, where a state of emergency was imposed, and the evacuation of five villages on the border with Ukraine as of August 19.
