A 49-year-old resident of Dimona was caught driving over the speed limit, after the police signaled him to stop he decided to escape, risking his son’s life.

During the chase, which was recorded by the police, the driver accelerated to a speed of approximately 185 km/h, on the Arava road towards Eilat. During the chase, the driver broke through barriers and continued driving until he was stopped by the police forces in the city of Eilat. All this in front of his 11-year-old son who stayed with him in the car.

If that wasn’t enough, while the policemen were chasing him, when the driver noticed that there were vehicles in both lanes of travel that were obstructing him in his attempt to escape from the policemen, he went down to the right side of the road and continued his wild ride while endangering all road users.

In the meantime, the policemen rushed to report that in the wave of the police connection, forces of the Eilat region police who were called to assist in the unusual event rushed to set up roadblocks at the entrance to the city of Eilat.

Upon arriving at the entrance barrier to the city, the driver ignored the police car that signaled him to stop and broke through the barrier and continued his journey, until he ran over a barbed wire barrier set up by the police, got stuck in a light pole and was arrested.

The suspect, a 49-year-old resident of Dimona, committed these offenses while his 11-year-old son was in the back seat of the vehicle the entire time.

As soon as he was stopped, the suspect was taken out of the vehicle, arrested and taken to the Eilat police station for questioning.

Major Dor Yaakov Mizrachi, an investigator in the Investigations Division of the Eilat Regional Police: “This is a very unusual incident. The suspect committed some of the most serious offenses in the traffic regulations alongside criminal offences, all while endangering all the road users who were around him, tried to thwart the police officers in the performance of their duties and worst of all – he did this in front of the eyes of his minor son who was with him in the car, who was forced to So young to be part of a dramatic chase and see his father arrested by police officers who were just doing their job.”

The suspect’s detention was extended at the Eilat Magistrate’s Court.
