by time news

Careful all-clear for the residents of Altenahr!

After the flood disaster in the Ahr Valley, a rocky slope in the Altenahr community is currently being secured as a precaution. According to measurements on the block in Ahrbrück, there are no indications of a danger, said a spokeswoman for the Ahr press center.

Nevertheless: Four nearby houses were temporarily evacuated in order to erect temporary protective barricades. In the long term, a high-energy fence should protect against possible falling rocks, said the spokeswoman.

According to the information, residents had reported after the heavy rain that the rock had changed. The technical relief organization then electronically measured and observed the rock for 48 hours, the spokeswoman said. No change was found. Then they climbed the rock and examined it – even without any indication of any movement.

Nevertheless, it was decided to take the security measure. The preliminary safety fences have already been ordered.

In an internal report by the riot police department of the federal police on Tuesday, it was said that a 500-ton rock in the Altenahr community was in danger of slipping off as a result of the flood.

A good two weeks ago, many places in the Ahr valley were flooded in a devastating storm. At least 134 people died.
