Red alerts have been increasing on French territory in recent days with the passage of storms Ciaran and Domingos. Météo-France has placed Pas-de-Calais on red alert for the risk of major flooding this Monday and Tuesday. Six departments remain on orange alert. Deux-Sèvres, Charente, Charente-Maritime, Gironde and Dordogne will also be affected by the risk of flooding while a rain and flood alert threatens the North. Pas-de-Calais is also affected by an orange alert for heavy rain.

For Pas-de-Calais, and more precisely on the Aa, Vigicrues mentions an “exceptional flood which could exceed the historic flood of 2002”. Damaging overflows are underway. Significant precipitation affected the north-west of Nord and Pas-de-Calais, particularly in Boulonnais and inland Flanders, during the night and especially in the morning this Monday, Météo-France indicated. These rains caused accumulations of 30 to 55 mm. These occur in a context of significant flooding on the watercourses of the Aa and Yser basins.

The meteorological service predicts a resumption of activity late in the evening and next night, after a lull this Monday afternoon. In the affected sectors of Boulonnais and Flanders, the expected accumulations are of the order of 10 mm on average and, very locally, 15 to 20 mm. The orange rain and flood alert should be lifted at six a.m. Tuesday.
