Pas-de-Calais is definitely not spared from the weather. On Monday, Météo France did not rule out the department going into red alert in the coming hours. Concerned by an orange alert for the risk of floods and rain-flooding since Sunday, maintained on flood alert on Monday, Pas-de-Calais actually went into the red this Tuesday. More precisely, it is the Aa river which has gone into red alert, according to Vigicrues.

Three other departments, North, Finistère and Meurthe-et-Moselle, remain on orange alert for the risk of flooding. In its latest bulletin from 4 p.m. on Tuesday, Météo France indicates that “most of the precipitation from the disturbance associated with the HENK depression has passed, the rains are rapidly becoming weaker and more dispersed over the north-western quarter of the country. But some rivers continue to rise and it still rains a lot in the northeast.”

Up to 60 to 80 mm of rain were recorded in Finistère (maximum 86 mm in Brennilis), 50 to 70 mm in Morbihan, 40 to 60 mm in Côtes-d’Armor and Loire-Atlantique, 40 to 60 mm more locally between Manche and Mayenne and up to 40 to 45 mm in Pas de Calais.

“Significant flooding is possible”

The meteorological organization warned on Monday that the heaviest accumulations of rain in Pas de Calais “would particularly concern the sectors already previously affected in Montreuillois as well as the heights of Boulonnais and Artois”.

Monday evening, there were seven rivers affected by the floods: the Liane, the Hem, the Aa, the Lys upstream-Laquette, the Lawe – Clarence upstream and the Lys plaine. “Significant flooding is possible,” warned Vigicrues. In addition to the Aa in red, the Lys, the Canche, the Hem, the Liane, the Laquette and the Lawe-Clarence are affected by orange vigilance this Tuesday afternoon in the Nord and Pas-de-Calais.

The record floods of recent weeks have caused five minor injuries in the department since November 6 and very significant material damage. They affected nearly 6,000 homes, 160 businesses, 130 businesses and at least 50 agricultural operations, according to the latest figures from the prefecture. As of November 13, 128 municipalities in Pas-de-Calais (84) and Nord (44) were recognized as being in a state of natural disaster, according to the prefectures of the two departments.
