A letter sent to the president of the Giani Region and to the management of the Museum

There is an agreement between the director of the Uffizi Gallery in Florence, Eike Schmidt, and the mayor Sandro Fallani on Scandicci’s participation in the “Uffizi Diffusi” project, after the candidacy presented by the Municipality to the direction of the Museum and to the president of the Tuscany Region Eugenio Giani.
Fallani and Schmidt met on the occasion of a visit to the most important public places in the city along the urban axis that from the Acciaiolo Castle crosses the Resistance, Togliatti and Matteotti squares. At the end of the morning of inspections, Eike Schmidt and Sandro Fallani agreed on the value of Scandicci’s participation in the “Uffizi Diffusi” project, starting from the contemporary and manufacturing vocation of Scandicci. The Uffizi Gallery and the Scandicci Municipal Administration will set up a small working group, with the participation of the Municipality’s Department of Culture, and will meet again within a few weeks to define the technical and artistic aspects of the project.
“Scandicci is a city with a contemporary vocation – it is written in the application letter for the” Uffizi Diffusi “project – so much so that it has a Master Plan that contains the development lines of the new city center designed by architect Richard Rogers».
Schmidt and Fallani
“Enhancing the specificities and cultural vocations of the territories is one of the main objectives of Uffizi diffusi – adds Schmidt – and many good ideas have been put in place for Scandicci. Furthermore, we must not forget that Scandicci has the added value of a strategic position in the “geography” of the diffused Uffizi, located halfway between Florence and Montelupo Fiorentino, where one of the great exhibition centers and not only of the project will rise, the Villa Ambrogiana ».
«The Uffizi Diffusi represent an extraordinary artistic novelty for one of the most important museums in the world, and at the same time a unique opportunity for the affirmation of the great Florence – explains Fallani – is a real cultural revolution, for the first time it is recognized as the enlargement of the historical boundaries of capital and attention to what is happening all around enriches the entire city, starting from the center which probably does not always know how to draw from the ferment of the many vital, hard-working and creative places of the metropolis and the region ».
