The 4-0 victory over Brighton kept the Manchester City strong in the fight for the English title. But the dispute with leader Arsenal promises to be intense until the end – just 1 point separates the two teams.
Coach Pep Guardiola’s team still has a game in hand, which could guarantee them the lead. Still, the final stretch of the competition will require maximum attention.
“We know that if we don’t win or draw, we won’t have a chance to fight until the end,” said Guardiola, after Thursday’s rout. “Of course the pressure is there, otherwise we cannot have this type of performance. There are five games left, let’s move on to the next one”, he added.
Last year, City grew in the final stretch and surpassed Arsenal in the fight for the English title. This time, Guardiola knows the story could be different.
“To do it again, you have to make it happen. I would love to say that if you have won the last three Premier League titles, you will go 4-0 here and win the next few games. But it doesn’t happen that way.” he warned.
