Food, biodiversity, oceans… The Climate Fresco federates its variations

A white panel stretched on wires and covered with colored rectangles welcomed visitors to the Smart Food Festival, on sustainable food, held in the 20e arrondissement of Paris from June 30 to July 2. In front of this intriguing painting, Salomé Falise is at the disposal of the curious. This young 26-year-old engineer, responsible for an agri-food innovation platform, is a volunteer for the Fresque de l’alimentation.

Directly inspired by the Fresque du climat – which teaches this complex theme through a collaborative game – this sister fresco was developed two years ago by a teacher from higher education, Julien Briton, and an engineer, Thomas Moulin. It has since had about sixty animators.

Today, it is a short version, the “quiz”, suitable for comings and goings, which is offered to the uninitiated. Passers-by can decide to choose a sub-theme organized in the form of a frieze, whose cards, turned over, will be revealed as they answer. “It’s a variation of the long version which lasts three hours, explains Salomé to each participant. It raises awareness of the social and health issues of food and our own consumption, in order to allow everyone to get involved. »

“Cornelian debate”

This quiz “can be stopped at any time”she says to Aymeric (who preferred to remain anonymous), a visitor. “It’s full of simple but intertwined notions, for which we don’t necessarily have in mind the orders of magnitudesummarizes the latter, in full digestion of information. A manager in an agricultural cooperative in the Oise, he struggles to tackle the delicate equation of the balance between food security, economic injunctions and respect for health and the environment. “It’s complicated to change the model on which we are sitting, if tomorrow we stop selling fertilizers and pesticides, for example, the cooperative will have to cut half of our jobs: it’s a tough debate that I have almost daily with my colleagues”he confides.

A group of two women and five children takes over and chooses the sub-theme “packaging”. The number of plastic bottles sold around the world every minute? A million. Next comes the entrance “fishery resource” with its 95% of French consumption coming from imports, its 7% of sustainable fishing in the world, and its farms full of antibiotics. “Globally, we shouldn’t eat fish anymore, ok”ironically Constance (who wished to remain anonymous), one of the mothers.
