National security advisers and senior officials from around the world are scheduled to meet in Doha this weekend to discuss plans for a summit on Ukraine’s conditions for reaching a settlement with Russia, according to people familiar with the matter who spoke to Bloomberg.

The meeting of officials from the G7 and the so-called Global South is part of a round of talks that paves the way for a high-level summit scheduled to be hosted by Switzerland in June.

Some of these meetings included dozens of other countries from the Gulf, the G20, and the BRICS.

Sources who spoke anonymously told Bloomberg that the list of attendees for the meeting in the Qatari capital has not yet been finalized.

Russia was not invited, and it is still unclear whether China will attend the conference.

Ukraine’s allies believe that China’s presence is important for the success of the summit, given the influence they say Beijing has over Moscow more than two years after the war.

The meeting comes days after the United States approved a national security package that includes more than $60 billion in aid for Kiev, providing Ukraine with some relief after months of battlefield setbacks.

Ukraine’s peace plan calls for respect for the country’s territorial integrity and sovereignty, the withdrawal of Russian forces, as well as guarantees about its future security.

It also includes specific provisions to protect nuclear generators and food supplies.

Kiev wants these principles to be broadly agreed upon at the June summit in Switzerland, as a prelude to any potential talks involving Russia.

China is seen as a key participant to give weight to any agreement, so the question of whether any official from Beijing will attend this meeting is crucial, the agency stresses.
