The Supreme Court held that forced conversion is unconstitutional.

The Supreme Court held that forced conversion is unconstitutional. Ashwini Upadhyay of BJP has filed a petition in the Supreme Court to declare that conversion by giving money and gifts is against fundamental rights.

The bench headed by Justice M.R. Shah is investigating this petition. During the investigation held yesterday, Solicitor General Tushar Mehta appeared on behalf of the central government and said, ‘We are collecting information from the state governments regarding the conversion of money and gifts. So we need a week’s time to file a detailed affidavit.

At that time, the judges said, ‘Conversion by giving money, gifts etc. is very dangerous and is against the basis of the Constitution’. Further, the judges adjourned the hearing to the 12th, giving the central government time to file an affidavit after receiving detailed information from the states.
