Circular on Living Expenses and Pension Allowance in Government Service – 2024 Budget Proposals

The Ministry of Public Administration and Home Affairs has issued a circular regarding the grant of Living Expenses Allowance and Pension Allowance in the Government Service in line with the Budget proposals.

It is reported that the Secretary of the Ministry, Pradeep Yasaratne, and other Secretaries of the Ministry have issued the circular to the Provincial Chief Secretaries and Heads of Departments yesterday (10).

According to the circular, as per the budget proposals for 2024, the cost of living allowance of government officials should be increased with effect from January.

Budget

From January to March this year, Rs 7,800 per month as living allowance will be added to Rs 5,000 to make it Rs 12,800 per government employee.

5,000 per month from January to March 2025 for the arrears of living expense allowance from January to March this year.

From April this year, 8 percent of the salary of all government employees will be deducted as widow and destitute pension contribution.

From January

This cost of living allowance is also valid for trainees and interns, members of armed forces, casual daily wage workers and personal employees of ministers.

According to the 2024 budget proposals, the current cost of living allowance for retirees is to be increased by Rs 2,500 from April this year.

It has been mentioned that the existing monthly living allowance to pensioners will be increased from Rs 3,525 to Rs 6,025.
