Once a year, the municipal lost and found office sells lost and forgotten items in bulk to the highest bidder. For the third time in a row, a young man from Salzburg made the right bid for the approximately 3,000 items…

A bright green piccolo trumpet in a case, a samurai sword with a mahogany handle, a child’s bike trailer and two pairs of skis. At first glance at the satellite store of the Salzburg Lost and Found Office, one cannot grasp everything. You only have 15 minutes to do just that. Then you have to place a bid. For these things and about 3000 other items. Yesterday those who were interested could look around in the municipal fund and submit their money bid for the finds that were stored for a year. The best bidder finally got the bid for all the lost and forgotten things. Many lost property still in boxesOnly two people had placed bids in the end, one jumped off before the bidding opened at 3:30 p.m. Andreas Pohl had noted the highest number and prevailed against his fellow bidder. The young man from Salzburg is no stranger: for the third year in a row he bid for valuables and trinkets and was awarded the contract. “For me it’s primarily fun. The focus is on discovering all objects,” says Pohl. He did not want to reveal how high his bid was. Most of the lost property is still in boxes. It will take days, if not weeks, for Pohl to discover what he has bought and what he can resell. Some end up at the flea market or online marketplaces. Including treasures that still need to be recovered.
