The former general director of the Federal Highway Police, Silvinei Vasques, was arrested during an operation investigating an alleged attempt by the corporation to interfere in the 2022 elections to favor then-president Jair Bolsonaro.
The order was issued by Judge Alexandre de Moraes of the Federal Supreme Court and was executed by the Federal Police.
Federal agents carried out ten other search and arrest warrants in Santa Catarina (where Silvinei was arrested), Rio Grande do Sul, Rio Grande do Norte and the Federal District.
Sheet revealed that the PRF intensified the controls on the buses on the day of the second round and disobeyed the decision of the Superior Electoral Tribunal that prohibited operations in public transport. That day, Silvinei asked for votes for Bolsonaro through the networks.
Bolsonaro supporters criticized the arrest. The former director’s defense did not comment on the suspicions and will request the reconsideration of the decision. The Attorney General’s Office ruled against the Federal Police’s action.
