New Delhi: The Supreme Court has granted four weeks conditional bail to former minister Rajendra Balaji, who was arrested in a money laundering case.
Rajendra Balaji and four of his aides have been booked on charges of embezzling Rs 3 crore from former AIADMK minister Rajendra Balaji on the pretext of getting a job at Avin. Following this, Rajendra Balaji filed a petition in the Chennai High Court seeking pre-bail. However, the petition was dismissed by the Chennai High Court and an appeal was filed in the Supreme Court on December 18.
Meanwhile, Rajendra Balaji, who was hiding in Hassan district of Karnataka, was rounded up by the police while he was traveling in a car. In this context, the judges questioned why the Tamil Nadu government was in such a hurry to arrest Rajendra Balaji when the petition filed by Rajendra Balaji came up for hearing in the Supreme Court session last week.
During the hearing today (Jan. 12), the apex court granted Rajendra Balaji 4 weeks bail on condition that he surrender his passport and not leave Virudhunagar.
