Former UK Prime Minister Boris Johnson to be questioned over ‘Partygate’ scandal

by time news

LONDON: Former Prime Minister Boris Johnson will be questioned next week about whether he lied about Partygate. Boris Johnson has repeatedly denied allegations in Parliament that he, friends and staff got together and drank in Downing Street during the Covid lockdown.

However, the UK imposed fines on Boris and his employees after it was found that they had colluded in violation of the law. Johnson became the first UK prime minister to be found guilty of breaking the law at gatherings during the lockdown. Boris Johnson resigned as Prime Minister in July 2022 amid allegations of lockdown violations and other scandals.

“Johnson accepted the committee’s invitation to give oral evidence in public,” a statement from Parliament’s watchdog Privileges Committee said. The hearing will be held on March 22.
