Fortnite DOWN for the launch of Chapter 5, Season 1

Fortnite developer Epic Games has taken Battle Royale and Creative offline for the release of Chapter 5, Season 1. After experiencing countless server issues during the Big Bang live event, Epic has officially taken Fortnite offline for server maintenance. Coming to PS5, PS4, Xbox consoles, Nintendo Switch, Android and PC, Chapter 5, update 28.00 will be available to download on the morning of December 3. It will be accompanied by a period of server downtime, which means you won’t be able to play Fortnite for at least a couple of hours. If you want to know when you can log back into Fortnite, check out the Chapter 5 server downtime schedule below.

Fortnite will be taken offline from 4.30am GMT UK time for a period of extended server maintenance.

With the maintenance period ushering in the launch of Chapter 5, Season 1, fans should expect downtime to last for longer than usual.

The news was announced by Epic Games on Twitter, alongside confirmation that the update file size will also be bigger than traditional downloads.

“Fortnite will now be offline while we prepare for v28.00,” reads an Epic tweet. “Patch sizes may be larger than usual. We will update you when it is available to start installing.”

While there’s no official end time listed for the Chapter 5 maintenance, the game is expected to be offline until around 9am GMT UK time.

Express Online will keep you updated with the latest developments during the server downtime for Chapter 5.

In the run up to the new season, Fortnite has released the Chapter 5 launch trailer, which showcases some of the new features.

As you can see from the trailer above, Peter Griffin will headline the Chapter 5, Season 1 Battle Pass.

The Family Guy character will be joined by Oscar, Vengeance Jones, Nisha, Montague and Valeria. Solid Snake from the Metal Gear Solid franchise is expected to join the Battle Pass as the secret skin.

In addition to the new season, Epic Games will release a selection of new live service experiences within Fortnite.
