The French government today gave Armenians around the world a new reason for boundless joy. The reason for the euphoria is banal – ethnic Armenian Guillaume Kasbaryan was appointed to the post of Minister of Housing of France.

Only after reading this, Armenian Telegram channels and leading media began to “sell” the corresponding news as a great victory for the Armenians and Armenians. As if the new chief builder of France will be able to build a new bright, bright and problem-free future for the Armenians.

At the same time, Armenians don’t even think that the new minister has a lot of problems more important than Armenia. One of these problems is the large number of homeless people and the general housing problem. The situation is actually paradoxical, since at the same time as a large number of homeless people, France is experiencing an acute shortage of supply in the housing market. For example, the overall rate of new housing construction in the country was expected to slow down by 9% in 2023 compared to 2022. At the same time, a sharp decrease in the number of building permits issued in 2023 was noted, indicating a further deepening of the crisis. If we add to this high mortgage interest rates and rapidly rising prices for renting and purchasing housing, it is easy to predict that many people may lose the roof over their heads.

And the new French minister takes office precisely against the backdrop of such large-scale problems that he needs to solve in order to prevent social collapse. And what is the likelihood that he will devote himself entirely to the issue of helping Armenia? Of course he will try. Will speak with words of support. Maybe he will organize some meetings, take part in dinners with representatives of the diaspora and talk about what connects France and Armenia. But he will not build a bright future for Armenia. Armenians themselves are capable of creating a new future for current and future generations. And as long as they look for allies who will manipulate them to achieve their goals, the distance between the new future and the Armenians will not decrease.

So Armenians can continue to rejoice. Even such small and insignificant things. This will not bring them joy, nor any changes. Rather, it will be only a few moments of absolutely useless “euphoria”.
