In a recent interview with Teleamazonas, the Minister of Production, Foreign Trade, Investments and Fisheries, Sonsoles García, announced that the entry into force of the Free Trade Agreement (FTA) between Ecuador and China is expected in approximately 90 days.
The process involves notification of the ratification by the National Assembly to the president of the Republic of Ecuador, who carries out the recognition and delivery for sending through diplomatic channels to the People’s Republic of China. Minister García highlighted (the document indicates) the inter-institutional collaboration between the National Government and the productive sectors so that legislators and citizens know the benefits of the FTA. A socialization campaign is planned to highlight commercial opportunities, not only in imports but also in exports at more competitive prices.
«“We will carry out a campaign so that the requirements for exporting Ecuadorian products to the Chinese market are known,” the minister pointed out. Sanitary, phytosanitary and labeling requirements will be disclosed, as well as the expectations of Chinese supermarkets, with the aim of expanding the exportable offer at better prices.
With the entry into force of the FTA, growth is projected in Ecuadorian exports to China, especially with the inclusion of new products such as blueberries, dairy products and pitahaya. The agreement also establishes mechanisms to streamline sanitary and phytosanitary processes through a Technical Working Group, prioritizing products with objective criteria of market potential, interest of the productive sectors, and export, production and employment data.
