From Sweden to Brazil: children born after a uterus transplant

by time news

Vincent is the name of the first child born from a transplanted uterus: born in Sweden in October 2014. In this case the transplanted uterus in the expectant mother came from one living donor, a 61-year-old family friend, seven years of menopause. The child was conceived thanks to the assisted fertilization, performed one year after the transplant: the ovaries of the mother, born without a uterus, were in perfect health. The doctors at the University of Gothenburg who had carried out the uterus transplant had given the woman drugs to suppress the immune system to prevent rejection.
