From the first listen, it sounds like Noa Kirel’s “Unicorn” will not win Eurovision

by time news

After already becoming the leading pop star in Israel (and the most popular singer of all time), will Noa Kirel conquer the world? Or in other words, will Unicorn, her new hit with which she will represent us at the upcoming Eurovision Song Contest to be held in May in Liverpool (all tickets for the final sold out in half an hour) – bring us the Deus Poh?

Is there a reason for optimism? This is how Noah Kirel’s “Unicorn” was received in Europe

After releasing a short teaser of the song to Tiktok last week after it was leaked to the Telegram network, Kirel (as of this writing) is placed sixth in the prediction table, even before the song or the teaser came out, which is quite reminiscent of the ranking of Neta Barzilai, winner of Eurovision 2018, whose song TOY ranked He was also in the first ten places in the competition even before he left.

Last night, in a special broadcast here 11 from the music festival that took place at the Dan Eilat hotel, Kirel officially revealed the music video and the song, which she wrote and composed herself together with Doron Medley (from the producers of TOY), Yanon Yahal and Mai Safdia, which she will perform in the first semi-final that will take place on May 9. In the performance, Kirel gave everything I expected her to give: she was precise, skilled, perfectionist, full of self-confidence and focused. There is no doubt that Kirel delivered one of her best performances, well aware of the heavy responsibility placed on her shoulders.

In terms of the song: I was expecting a bombastic hit that would catch my ear from the first moment, but I was disappointed. Although the production, the text and the melody are invested, they are no more catchy than a standard pop song in the usual homes; However, the chorus and transition are catchy, and especially the “Phenomenal Phenomenon” grabs the ear from the first listen and resonates to the point of a buzz that sticks in the head (which is a plus). The combination of classical elements with Mediterranean towards the end of the song, in the transition, was excellent, but it doesn’t sound like a number one hit to me, unfortunately.

Kirel’s Hebrew songs have a greater chance, in my opinion, of winning than this song, which is excellent – but it has unnecessary parts and those that detract from it. Let’s put it this way: it’s not a phenomenal song, and I write this as a die-hard Kirle fan. However, maybe with repeated listenings to the song it will be absorbed more and my opinion will change, but from the initial feeling – this is not our victory.
