Funny Bone & DraftCade: New Virginia Beach Entertainment

by Sofia Alvarez

Virginia Beach’s entertainment scene is getting a boost with the reopening of Funny Bone Comedy Club on Friday in Pembroke Square. The club, which closed its Town Center location on Nov. 30, will feature a lineup of nationally recognized comedians this year, including Marlon Wayans, Jeff Arcuri, Desi Banks, T.J. Miller and Kam Patterson.

A New Hub for Laughs and Retro Gaming

The Funny Bone’s return coincides with the debut of DraftCade, creating a dual-venue destination for entertainment seekers.

  • Funny Bone Comedy Club reopens Friday, Jan. 31, in Pembroke Square.
  • The new location boasts a 450-person capacity, up from 300.
  • DraftCade, an arcade bar, opens next door on Jan. 22, offering craft beer and retro games.
  • Combined, the venues have created 150 jobs and are still hiring.

The expanded Funny Bone aims to attract bigger names and larger audiences, according to Todd Leinenbach, vice president of Funny Bone and DraftCade. The new space offers a seating capacity of 450, a significant increase from the previous 300-seat venue.

What makes this reopening special? The Funny Bone isn’t coming back alone. It’s launching alongside DraftCade, a new arcade bar slated to open on Jan. 22. The two venues are connected on the interior and are part of the larger Pembroke Mall redevelopment project.

DraftCade offers 48 rotating beer taps, showcasing both local craft brews and national favorites. The arcade boasts a nostalgic atmosphere with over 90 retro and modern games, plus 28 large-screen TVs. Unlimited gaming is available for $10 per person, and a private party room can accommodate events for up to 100 guests.

“Our goal is to be the funnest place in town,” Leinenbach said in a release.

Both venues feature updated and unique food menus. The combined operation has already created 150 jobs, and Leinenbach noted that they are still actively hiring.
