The future of Europe, the ambitions of Sofia to become an innovation hub on the international stage, the role of Bulgaria in the relations between Turkey and the EU, and the need to promote not just “Brand Bulgaria”, but the European Union itself – these key questions were put before 46 – there are elite managers, the Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Maria Gabriel on Thursday. Among them are heads of large enterprises and startups, bank directors, representatives of large law firms and prosecutors, senior officials in the gendarmerie and the army, heads of directorates in ministries, etc. They are of 9 nationalities.

Maria Gabriel was chosen as patron of the 2024 class of the prestigious French National Institute of Public Administration. In the French capital, she spent 2 hours in a fascinating discussion with the graduating class. The students asked her questions on current topics – from energy and defense, through disinformation and the environment, to the banking system in the bloc and the EU enlargement policy.

The deputy prime minister is the 17th patron, and before her, authorities in European politics such as Simone Weil, Jacques Delors, Valéry Giscard d’Estaing, Jean-Claude Juncker, Herman van Rompuy, Ursula von der Leyen, and others were elected.

In Paris, Gabriel outlined Bulgaria’s ambitions to establish itself as a key factor for security and stability in Southeast Europe. He presented the challenges and ambitions of Bulgarian foreign policy in the dynamic world environment. Among them, he ordered our country’s support for the Western Balkans and the need to place the security of the Black Sea region high on the agenda of the EU and NATO.

The French National Institute of Public Administration (INSP) is an academic institution for the training of French senior managers and civil servants.
