Italian culture has a rich history and heritage, and this event gives us the opportunity to share it with the Guatemalan community. In addition, it is a very special occasion for Guatemalans to immerse themselves in Italian culture and discover the ties that unite both nations.

Which is celebrated during the “Week of Italian Cuisine in the World.” Can you provide more details about this celebration?

The Paseo Italia coincides with the “Week of Italian Cuisine in the World”, an activity organized by the Italian Ministry of Foreign Affairs and generally coordinated by the Italian Embassy. During this week, events are held around the world to promote Italian culinary culture, its products and the quality of its gastronomy. It is a unique opportunity to make our flavors and traditions known internationally.

Additionally, there will be cultural activities to showcase our Italian heritage. This event promotes collaboration and cultural exchange.

How did the idea of organizing the Song Festival and Pizza Championship come about?

The idea of holding the Song Festival and Pizza Championship in Guatemala arose as part of our efforts to spread Italian culture and provide opportunities to those who study Italian. Italy has a rich tradition of music and pizza, and we decided to bring these two passions together to create an event that appeals to both young and old.

Who can participate in the Song Festival? What are the prizes and requirements to participate?

The Song Festival is open to anyone over 15 years old. There is no age limit, as long as they are at least 15 years old. Registration is free and the forms are now available at the Italian Institute of Culture. The first prize is an exciting experience in Italy. Plus, the pre-audition is an opportunity to showcase your talent and have a fun day.

The Pizza Championship has grown significantly in recent years. It is open to everyone, from amateurs to professionals. We even had an 11 year old girl participating last year, proving that there is no age limit. What message would you like to convey to those who are considering participating in or hoping to attend these events?

These events are much more than competitions or cultural activities. They are times of gathering and celebration, especially when Christmas approaches. Are there any other special activities planned during the event?

Of course! In addition to live music and delicious food, we will have a children’s choir called “El Pico” who will sing during the event. We have also organized a wine tasting in a creative way, where we invite attendees to participate in blind tastings to guess the characteristics of the wine. It is an opportunity to learn and enjoy in the company of the whole family.

How has the Guatemalan community received these activities?

The response from the Guatemalan community has been exceptional. From the beginning, we had requests from companies that wanted to participate and make themselves known at the event. Additionally, this year, we are expecting the visit of people from Honduras and El Salvador, which shows that interest in Italian culture has expanded beyond the borders of Guatemala. People are eager to participate in cultural activities and enjoy Italian food.

What opportunities and challenges has the organization of Paseo Italia in Guatemala faced?

One of the biggest challenges has been adapting to restrictions and safety measures in the midst of the pandemic. However, we have also seen a great opportunity to bring the community together and strengthen cultural ties. Collaboration with the government of Guatemala City has been fundamental in this sense. Paseo Italia is an opportunity for companies to make themselves known and for importers of Italian products to establish contacts in Guatemala and the region.

Do you plan any contact with the Ministry of Foreign Affairs during the event?

Yes, Paseo Italia in Guatemala has the support and collaboration of the Italian Ministry of Foreign Affairs. During the event, there will be a space for Italians abroad to meet and share experiences. We hope that the Ambassador of Italy will join us for a toast and that the event will be an opportunity to strengthen ties with Italian and Guatemalan institutions.

What message would you like to send to the Guatemalan community about Paseo Italia and Italian culture in general?

We want to convey a message of unity and diversity. Paseo Italia is an opportunity for Guatemalans and Italians to come together in an enriching cultural environment. Italian culture is rich in traditions, gastronomy and values, and we want to share all that with the community. We invite you to join us and explore the wonders of Italy in Guatemala.
