The United States has found evidence of China’s attempts to influence the outcome of the upcoming presidential election. This statement was made by US Secretary of State Antony Blinken in an interview with CNN following his visit to Beijing, Day.Az reports with reference to TASS.
“Overall we have seen evidence of attempts to influence and perhaps even interfere [в выборы]. We want to make sure that such actions stop as quickly as possible,” he said. The Secretary of State noted that the United States is “watching very closely” any potential interference in its elections and considers attempts to influence them “totally unacceptable.” In his opinion, there is the threat of such actions that comes from China and other countries. How exactly third countries can influence the outcome of the presidential race in the United States, the head of the American foreign policy department did not specify.
As CNN reported in January, citing sources, Chinese President Xi Jinping assured US leader Joe Biden at the November Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation summit in San Francisco that Beijing does not intend to interfere in the upcoming US elections.
