Gapyeong-gun issued a ‘digital tourist resident card’, and the number of honorary residents exceeded 100,000. Gapyeong-gun (Governor Seo Tae-won) announced on the 24th that the number of honorary Gapyeong-gun residents registered for the ‘Digital Tourism Resident Card’, a living population influx project of the Korea Tourism Organization, has exceeded 100,000.

As of the 23rd, the number of digital tourism resident card issuers was 101,492, which was achieved 7 months after the selection of the public offering project in June. The number of digital tourist resident card issuers is approximately 1.6 times that of the residential population of Gapyeong-gun.

The digital tourist resident card is an honorary resident card that allows tourists to receive discounts on experiences, sightseeing, restaurants, and lodging, and can be issued and used by anyone except Gapyeong-gun residents. A variety of benefits are provided at 26 major tourist attractions and facilities in Gapyeong-gun, including △Edelweiss Swiss Theme Park (2,000 won discount on admission fees) and △Gapyeong Bridge Zipline (20% discount on experience fees).

County Governor Seo Tae-won said, “The digital tourist ID card is receiving a great response from tourists,” and added, “We will continue to actively promote Gapyeong’s tourism resources through various events and promotions targeting issuers.”

Meanwhile, Gapyeong-gun recently successfully completed the ‘Pedestrian Street Creation Project with Nature and Rest’, providing a safe and convenient walking environment for local residents and visitors. This project is attracting attention by applying universal design that takes into consideration the transportation vulnerable, such as the elderly and the disabled.

The project site is a major section connecting Jaraseom Island, Nami Island, and Gapyeong Station. Previously, the risk of accidents was high due to the mixed use of bicycle and pedestrian paths and insufficient safety facilities. In particular, aging pedestrian paths made movement difficult due to subsidence and elevation, and the dark street environment increased the anxiety of pedestrians at night. As a result, the elderly and the disabled, who are socially disadvantaged, have experienced great inconvenience in moving around.

To solve this problem, Gapyeong-gun invested KRW 950 million in project funds secured through the selection of the ‘2024 Gyeonggi-do Competition (Universal Design Project for the Transportation Disadvantaged)’ to install a pedestrian deck in a 350m section and completely separate the bicycle path and the pedestrian path. did it In addition, idle spaces were reorganized into rest areas, and walking convenience was greatly improved by improving the guidance system and reorganizing obstacles.

This project is expected to contribute to not only strengthening pedestrian safety but also revitalizing the local economy and tourism. The nighttime landscape-specific design that utilizes the natural scenery of Gapyeong-gun is expected to provide attractive attractions and have a positive impact on the local commercial district due to increased nighttime activities.

County Mayor Seo Tae-won said, “The creation of a pedestrian-specialized street is meaningful in that it goes beyond simply improving pedestrian paths and provides a space where both local residents and tourists can feel ‘safety and rest.’” He added, “We will continue to improve the pedestrian environment in line with the aging age.” “We will strive to improve the quality of life for residents,” he said.

The county expects that the creation of this pedestrian-specialized street will serve as an opportunity for Gapyeong-gun to take a leap forward into becoming a safer and more livable city.
