Centenary Gents Return Home for Pivotal SCAC Soccer Clash with Colorado College Tigers
Centenary college’s men’s soccer team faces a crucial weekend in Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference (SCAC) play, beginning Friday with a matchup against the undefeated colorado College Tigers at 7 PM at Atkins Field. The Gents (3-4-2, 1-1-0 SCAC) are coming off a split weekend in SCAC competition, while the Tigers (7-0-1, 2-0-0 SCAC) continue to roll through the conference schedule. Centenary’s defense has been stellar recently, recording five straight shutouts and six for the season, with their last conceded goal coming on September 4th in a 2-2 draw against Whitman.
Centenary boasts a 2-0-1 record at home this season,while Colorado College is yet to play a road game,currently standing at 0-0-1. Historically, the Tigers hold a meaningful advantage in the series, leading 19-3-1, and have won the last four encounters, including a 2-0 victory last season in Colorado Springs. Friday’s match marks the Gents’ first home appearance as a 1-0 win over Lyon College on September 7th.
A key storyline will be the battle between the goalkeepers. Senior GK Sam Brocato of Centenary is currently second in the conference in shutouts (3) and saves (38), and is tied for 38th nationally in division III in shutouts. However, he’ll be facing Alex Wolter of Colorado College, who leads the conference with six shutouts and is tied for third in the country.
Beyond the goalkeeping duel, Friday’s contest showcases a clash between the SCAC’s top offensive squads. The Tigers lead the league with 21 goals scored, while the Gents are close behind with 18. Colorado college also dominates in assists with 22, compared to Centenary’s nine. In total points, the Tigers lead with 64, while the Gents have accumulated 45.
Several players are driving the offensive output for Centenary.Senior forward Connor Buche,sophomore defender Dylan Clark,junior forward Carter Webb,and junior forward Fernando Santos are all tied for the team lead with two goals apiece. Nine other players have each contributed a goal – Gabriel Aragon, Aidan Miller, Aaron Gonzales, Joseph Leboeuf, Marco Zavala, Matthew Hebert, jesse Lang, Jacob Ramsey, and Brandon Guevara.Ramsey currently leads the team in assists (3) and points (7), while Buche, Clark, Santos, and Webb are tied for second in points with four each.
Colorado College entered the season as the preseason conference favorite,while Centenary was predicted to finish eighth. The Tigers, last season’s co-regular season champions, have made back-to-back NCAA Tournament appearances for the first time since 2002 and haven’t lost a conference game since October 2021.
Looking ahead, the 2025 SCAC Men’s soccer Tournament will return to a six-team format, taking place the first week of November at the Round Rock Multipurpose Complex in Round Rock, texas. Quarterfinal matches are scheduled for November 6th,followed by the semifinals on November 7th,and the championship game on November 9th.
