Germany: Another EU country starts vaccination with Sputnik V

by time news

The coronavirus vaccine is still a scarce commodity. Solving the issue of rapid vaccination of the population, Slovakia is already the second second EU country after Hungary, announced the permission of vaccination with the Russian-made Sputnik V drug.

The first injection was received by a man – a resident of the industrial city of Zhilin, according to the TA3 TV channel.

Slovakia uses a vector vaccine, although the drug has not yet been officially approved by the European Medicines Agency (EMA).

Igor Matovic, the former Prime Minister of Slovakia, bought 200,000 doses of the drug in Russia. Disagreements over permission to vaccinate with the Russian vaccine, as well as his decision “for”, taken by the politician alone, led to his loss of the post of prime minister.

It is reported that the vaccine in Slovakia is recommended for use by residents of the country aged 18 to 60 years. The proposal to introduce Sputnik V is voluntary.

There are many voices among doctors and virologists in favor of a non-politicized approach to vaccine procurement. Many experts consider Sputnik V to be a good vaccine. So, back in mid-March of this year, Thomas Mertens, chairman of the Standing Commission on Vaccinations (Stiko) at the Robert Koch Institute in Berlin, speaking about the Rossiix vaccine, said: “This is a good vaccine, which, in all likelihood, will someday be allowed in the EU “Russian researchers have a lot of experience in the field of vaccine production.” Sputnik V “has been skillfully designed,” he said in an interview with the Rheinische Post.

At the current moment, the EU approved the use of vaccines against COVID-19 from BioNTech / Pfizer, Moderna, AstraZeneca, as well as a drug from the Johnson & Johnson concern, which does not require a second dose, like other vaccines.
