Inspector General of the Bundeswehr (German Armed Forces) Carsten Breuer believes that the German Armed Forces have five years to prepare for a possible attack from outside, Day.Az reports with reference to TASS.
“Combat readiness is a process that we are going to go through. But we do not have endless time for this,” Breuer opined to the Welt am Sonntag newspaper. “For us, this means a five to eight year preparatory period,” Breuer expressed his point of view, arguing about an alleged possible military threat from the Russian Federation. However, Breuer clarified that this does not mean that an attack will occur, but it is possible. “And since I am a military man, I say: in five years we must be ready for war,” says the inspector general of the German Armed Forces.
This, he said, is about the ability to defend oneself and thereby make the risk for the enemy so high that he will refuse to attack. “This is a deterrent. For me, the special fund (for the modernization of the Bundeswehr in the amount of €100 billion – approx.) is an expression of the fact that this has become a reality in politics,” he believes.
