Appingedam – This week, GGD Groningen will introduce the first shots against the HPV virus in young people. Spread across the
province, they can go for a vaccination at seven locations. Only this year is this one
vaccination free for the target group.
Invitation
Young people born between 1 January 1996 and 31 December 2003 have received a letter in the past few weeks
received about the vaccination or will receive this letter soon. An appointment can be made online at
www.HPVafspraak.nl. You can also make an appointment by telephone on 0800 – 1608, for example if
you have not (yet) received the letter. There is a decision aid for those who are unsure about the vaccination
available at www.hpvkeuzehulp.nl.
Vaccination is possible at 7 locations across the province, namely Appingedam, Groningen,
Hoogezand, Stadskanaal, Scheemda, Uithuizen and Veendam. While making the online appointment
can choose a location. Vaccination is only possible with an appointment.
Vaccination
Two vaccinations are required for good protection. There is at least 150 between the vaccinations
to dawn. Young people who have passed their first vaccination will receive a text message in a few months
remind them to make a second appointment.
What is HPV?
HPV stands for human papillomavirus. Someone who has the virus usually doesn’t notice it, but
it is very contagious. In some cases, an infection can lead to cancer. The vaccination
against HPV protects well against six types of cancer, including cervical, penile and
anal cancer. HPV occurs in both men and women.
National vaccination program
With this campaign for 19 to 26-year-olds, boys and men, who were not before, get
