Glasner Dismisses Manchester United Links, Addresses Guéhi’s Potential Move to Manchester City

Crystal Palace manager Oliver Glasner has downplayed speculation linking him to the vacant managerial position at Manchester United, while simultaneously acknowledging the possibility of captain Marc Guéhi departing for Manchester city this month should a suitable offer be made. The Austrian tactician, who guided the Eagles to FA Cup success last season, remains focused on his current role despite emerging as a front-runner for the United job. “I am not allowed to bet, and I don’t look at it [the odds],” he stated. “I cannot also give insider information, because then I am also breaking my contract. I am Crystal Palace manager and I just think it makes no sense, and is also wasted time for you to ask me any more questions, so I don’t talk about any other club than Crystal Palace.”

The manager further illustrated the precarious nature of long-term planning in football, noting that even newly signed contracts offer no guarantee of stability. “You can sign a new contract, like managers did in the Premier League this year, and they aren’t the manager there any more,” he added. “There is one situation which keeps you in your job when you are a manager — and this is being triumphant. It is the only thing to survive [in] this job.”

Guéhi’s Future at Selhurst Park Uncertain

While steadfast in his focus on crystal Palace, Glasner conceded that the club may be compelled to consider offers for key players, particularly defender Marc Guéhi. The England international is entering the final months of his contract and was previously linked with a move to Liverpool.

A potential move to Manchester City has now surfaced, fueled by a defensive injury crisis at the Etihad Stadium. Both Rúben dias and Josko Gvardiol are facing extended absences – Dias is expected to miss up to six weeks with a hamstring injury, while Gvardiol requires surgery for a broken shin bone.

Glasner articulated a pragmatic approach to player transfers, stating, “If a player feels too good for a club, it is better to sell him, and if a player is not good enough for a club, you also have to sell him. To get the best out of your squad,it must be a match.”

When directly asked about the possibility of Guéhi joining Manchester City in January, Glasner responded, “It could be. I’m not so naive as not to know that if a massive offer comes from City and Marc wants to do it, it will happen.” He further elaborated using an analogy: “nothing in life is one-dimensional. let’s say you have a nice car but you need money as it’s cold and a window [at home] is broken, and somebody offers you crazy money for your car. You say, ‘No, I don’t want to sell my car. I love my car. But I don’t want to freeze.’ Then you say, ‘If I can get the window and even a new roof, you can have the car. But I would like to keep it.'”

He acknowledged the conflicting desires of retaining a valuable player versus addressing pressing financial needs. “Everybody wants him to play for Crystal Palace, sign a new contract and stay here for ever,” Glasner saeid. “On the other side, the contract ends this summer and if somebody is coming and you are freezing, there will be a moment when the club says, ‘Now the financial issue is more critically important than the sporting issue and we have to do it.’ There will be a threshold where if Marc says he wants to leave and the money is above the threshold, it will happen.”

Crystal Palace Prepare for Aston Villa Clash Amidst Uncertainty

Despite the swirling speculation surrounding his own future and the potential departure of his captain, Glasner is focused on preparing his team for Wednesday night’s Premier League fixture against Aston villa. Crystal Palace are currently seeking their first league win in five games.

The team will be without Nathaniel Clyne due to a minor abductor injury sustained during Sunday’s defeat at Newcastle, and Jefferson Lerma remains unavailable following concussion protocol. Though, defender Chris Richards is expected to return to the squad.
