Midfielder of the Moscow Region football club (FC) Khimki Denis Glushakov left the location of the Russian national team and will not play in the qualifying matches of the 2022 World Cup (World Cup) in October. This was announced by the newspaper “Sport-Express” on Wednesday, October 6.
The footballer was injured in the tenth round match of the Tinkoff of the Russian Premier League (RPL) against the Arsenal team from Tula on Saturday, October 2. He received a microtrauma to the back of the thigh. The restoration of Glushakov will continue with Khimki.
“Unfortunately, the damage that Denis Glushakov received earlier at the location of the club will not allow him to play for the national team in the next matches, since additional time is needed to treat this type of injury. Every effort was made by our medical staff. The player underwent a course of therapy, but taking into account the discomfort that Denis is experiencing, it became clear that he would not be able to continue the preparatory camp and he needed more time to fully recover, ”the senior physician of the national team Vladimir Khaitin told the newspaper.
The match of the qualifying tournament Russia – Slovakia will be held on Friday, October 8 in Kazan, the game with Slovenia – on October 11 in Maribor.
On October 6, the press service of the national team reported that instead of the injured Glushakov, the midfielder of FC Rostov Danil Glebov was called up to the Russian national team for the October qualifying matches. The corresponding call has already been issued and sent to the club.
On September 27, the coaching staff of the national team published the final list of players who were supposed to take part in the October selection matches for the 2022 World Cup. The team also includes Denis Glushakov, who has not played for the national team since 2018.
Denis Glushakov is 34 years old. He played his last match for the Russian national team against the Brazilian team on March 23, 2018. In total, the footballer played 57 matches in the national team and scored five goals. He is a participant in the 2012 and 2016 European Championships and the 2014 World Cup, became the champion of Russia and the owner of the Russian Super Cup as part of FC Spartak.
