Independiente Medellín received the leader Atlético Bucaramanga on date 16 of the BetPlay 2024-I League and the powerful team was looking for an urgent victory to continue in the fight to qualify for home runs. In the end, those led by Alfredo Arias won 1-0 and still have a chance.
The powerful team did not manage to have a clear option in the first half and although they tried through Pablo Lima, Jhon Vásquez and Anderson Plata, the visiting team became strong defensively to not let the home team play comfortably.
The leopards only had one approach or another, but they did not achieve a clear play to surprise Medellín.
In the second half, a little more was expected from the game, but the dynamics did not change much, so the same result remained for 20 minutes that did not seem to move.
However, in the 67th minute the first goal of the game arrived and it went to Medellín through a well executed penalty by Jhon Vásquez, who made the powerful Atanasio Girardot celebrate.
That goal was motivating and in the 75th minute Brayan León was in charge of increasing the score, but the goal ended up annulled after a VAR review, after a previous foul by Baldomero Perlaza.
Despite this, Medellín managed to hold on to that result and ended up winning three important points that leave it tenth with 22 points and still with a chance of getting its home run quota, while Bucaramanga, already classified, was left with 32 points.
