BOLZANO. Born in 1947, just turned 77, after a brief illness yesterday morning in Peschiera del Garda, he passed away – or rather, as his friends say: he moved on – Franco Leasihistoric president of the South Tyrolean section of the national Bersaglieri association.

A widower for five years, with two children, Leasi was very well known in the city, as his friend said Silvano Cassinifor his tireless commitment to fighting and weapons associations, but also to sporting and musical ones.

«Franco – says his friend Cassini – has carried out the mandate of president of the Bersaglieri since 1995, always with great commitment and professionalism. But for us Bersaglieri this is above all a huge human loss. His priority has always been respect for values: the tricolour, the institutions, the family.” An immense loss, not only for the Bersaglieri, he specifies, “but also for the fighters and veterans”.

In fact, Leasi continues, «was also part of Cardano’s Alpine group, and was also an advisor to the artillery section. Where there was a need, where his professionalism was needed, he was always there. He never backed down.”

A great lover of music and sport, at the beginning of the 1980s he was also manager of Virtus Bolzano (which later became Polisportiva Piani), of which Cassini himself was coach. «We won the third category championship». By profession, Leasi had been responsible for the Sip sales point in Piazza Parrocchia – telephones, switchboards, etc. Master of work but, above all, in his heart the Bersaglieri, since he left for the military, in the Friulian Sacile. A non-commissioned officer, he had been classified as a sergeant in the Garibaldi brigade.

«He carried in his heart – as Cassini always did – the pride of having held an important role within the military hierarchy».

Franco Leasi, concludes the friend of many years, «was an exquisite person, who leaves an unfillable void. A person loved by all, of great help to the entire city of Bolzano. He had his own way, very amiable, of being listened to and even more so of making himself understood.”
