Google Health 5.11 Adds Activity Tracking, Health Guardian Features

Google Health version 5.11 is rolling out with an upgraded automatic activity tracking system that detects over 100 workouts, expanded continuous glucose monitor integration with Abbott, and new Health Guardian features arriving for Fitbit Air and Pixel Watch users.

Google Health 5.11 Adds Over 100 Tracked Workouts

Users of the Fitbit Air, Fitbit Edge, and Pixel Watch models 3, 4, and 5 can now take advantage of an automatic detection system across compatible devices.

The latest version of the application brings an expansion in how fitness wearables log movement. This system identifies more than 100 distinct activities such as strength training, swimming, and racket and team sports.

Powered by contextual reasoning, the software factors in workout routines, historical data, manual edits, and permitted location data to deliver nearly 2x more accurate detections and cut missed workouts by more than half.

Workouts that hit a default 15-minute minimum duration threshold with a sustained elevated heart rate log automatically, generating a summary sent to the mobile app within roughly 30 minutes.

When you confirm or edit an activity, you are training a feature that learns your unique patterns and uses them to refine future predictions.

By automatically logging your workouts, even when you forget, it helps you stay focused on your workout rather than your screen. This experience is available across Fitbit Air and Pixel Watch 3, 4, and 5 later this month.

Health Guardian Features Arrive for Fitbit Air Subscribers

Owners of the Fitbit Air and Fitbit Edge who subscribe to Google Health Premium gain access to the Health Guardian suite of tracking capabilities. The features allow users to monitor blood pressure trends and insulin resistance trends directly within the application, receiving monthly reports designed to spot lifestyle adjustments.

Blood pressure patterns become accessible in the Health tab after wearing a Fitbit Air for five or more consecutive days in October. Insulin resistance tracking requires seven or more days and nights of wear during the same month.

Google also confirmed that sleep breathing quality support is rolling out to the Fitbit Air soon, bringing the tracker in line with features previously exclusive to Pixel Watch models after months of uncertainty.

Additional improvements arrive for sleep tracking across wake detection and nap editing capabilities.

The software updates factor step data into sleep tracking. This update allows the application to more accurately trace short awakenings, such as getting up to use the bathroom.

Users can also easily remove any incorrectly logged naps directly from their nap card.

Google Health App Integrates Abbott Glucose Monitor

The updated application introduces integration for United States users pairing Abbott’s Lingo over-the-counter continuous glucose monitor, displaying readings in the Google Health app.

Beyond glucose monitoring, Google has secured integrations with several health platforms. Clinical lab imports from Function Health roll out for US users later this fall.

To connect these services, users simply tap their profile icon inside the Google Health app and choose partner applications.

New Metal Mesh Band Options and Hardware Accessories

Alongside software changes, hardware accessories for the Fitbit Air expand with a new Metal Mesh band constructed from stainless steel and offered in champagne gold or polished silver. The band retails for $69.99 on its own or can be purchased bundled with an Obsidian Fitbit Air for $149.99.
