Google Photos has rolled out its AI-powered virtual closet feature to all Android and iOS users in the United States, Brazil, and India. The tool, inspired by the digital wardrobe from the film Clueless,
automatically creates a digital copy of a user’s wardrobe based on clothing worn in photos.
The digital clothing feature first appeared for Android users in June following an initial announcement earlier in the year. Now, the functionality has expanded to encompass both mobile platforms across all three supported countries. By analyzing pictures of what people wear, the artificial intelligence builds a replica of their clothing collection inside the app.
How the Virtual Wardrobe and Outfit Generator Works
Once the system processes a user’s clothing items from their photo library, the application organizes everything into distinct categories. Users can filter items by category β like tops, bottoms, jewelry, and more, making it straightforward to track individual pieces. The interface then allows people to mix and match these items to assemble complete outfit combinations.
The concept bears a clear resemblance to the cinematic technology used by Cher in Clueless,
where a computerized system managed a sprawling Beverly Hills wardrobe. Within the film Clueless,
this computerized wardrobe served to emphasize Cher’s affluent lifestyle, showcasing an abundance of garments that necessitated a software organizer to maintain order and coordinate daily attire. Today, individuals no longer require the wealth of a Beverly Hills adolescent to utilize innovations of this kind.
Privacy Guarantees and Data Handling Safeguards
To address these concerns, Google said that information about a user’s clothing style and items is not shared with third parties, including retailers. According to the company, the tool exists to support the individual, ensuring that details regarding personal style or apparel choices remain withheld from outside entities such as merchants.
Gemini Spark and Markup Tool Additions
The wardrobe rollout arrives bundled with several distinct modifications to the broader photo service. A new capability powered by Gemini Spark allows users to select, brighten, and share photos using a single prompt. This specific assistant feature requires a Google AI Pro or Ultra subscription for users located in the United States. Alongside the expansion of the virtual wardrobe, the platform introduces several other enhancements to Google Photos, featuring AI-driven Remix templates, an improved editing utility, and integrated Gemini Spark functionality enabling quick photo selection, lighting adjustments, and sharing through one command.
At the same time, the application’s Markup tool received practical enhancements designed for precise image editing. Users gain access to a redacting pen capable of blurring sensitive details such as license plates, alongside precise thickness sliders for custom sketches and varied font options when overlaying text onto images. The updated Markup utility equips you with a censoring tool to obscure confidential details like license plates, precise width controls for personalized drawings, and a selection of typography styles for adding captions.
New Moods Filters for Android Devices
Android device owners also receive an exclusive set of aesthetic adjustments called Moods.
These built-in filters let individuals apply vintage stylistic treatments to their pictures, giving digital snapshots the visual texture of 35mm film or a 2000s digicam. For Android users, there are also new photo filters, called Moods,
that let you give your images different looks, like 35mm film, 2000s digicam, and more.
