Google is revamping its Rapid Share feature, and early versions show a cleaner, more intuitive interface for file transfers across devices.
Google Quick Share Gets a Makeover
Google’s file-sharing tool is getting a important UI refresh, making it easier to send and receive files.
- Google Quick Share is getting a new user interface.
- The update separates sending and receiving functions.
- Support for iOS and macOS devices is planned.
- Device visibility and naming are improved.
Google Quick Share, a handy tool for high-speed file transfers between Android devices, Windows PCs, and Chromebooks, is on the verge of an upgrade. While already functional, the tech giant is planning broader compatibility, aiming to include iOS and macOS devices. This isn’t the only improvement, though. Reports indicate a significant redesign of the Quick share interface itself.
What’s new with the Quick Share interface? The updated design features distinct “send” and “receive” modes, with clear buttons to switch between them. When you launch quick share, it defaults to the reception mode, whether accessed from your phone’s settings or the quick settings panel. Your device name is now more prominent, and you can even choose to make your device’s image visible to contacts, adding a touch of personalization.
Comparing the old and new interfaces, the updated version presents a sleeker look, particularly noticeable in the dark theme example. The sending screen has also been enhanced with a file selector that allows for the direct selection of multiple file types. For multimedia files,a preview is now displayed during the selection process, simplifying the experience.
While these changes are rolling out to some users, an official release date for everyone hasn’t been announced yet.
