Google Raises Pixel 10a Price by $100 Due to Memory Chip Costs

Google has quietly raised the price of its budget-focused Pixel 10a smartphone by $100 in the United States, pushing the starting retail cost to $599 amid rising memory chip expenses that are rippling across the consumer electronics market.

The price increase shifts the 128GB base model from its original $499 launch figure to $599 at the official Google Store. The higher rates have also appeared across major retail partners, including Amazon and Best Buy, according to Android Central. The 256GB storage configuration now carries a $699 price tag, up from its initial $599 tier.

International Markets and Regional Price Jumps

The hardware adjustment extends well beyond the U.S. market. Canadian consumers face an even steeper climb, with Google pushing the Pixel 10a to $849 CAD, representing a $170 jump from its previous $679 baseline. Retail tracking shows the device had traded as low as $529 CAD in weeks prior to the revision.

European and British buyers are seeing similar upward pressure. Despite the direct manufacturer increases, scattered retailer discounts still offer temporary relief; online marketplaces such as Amazon UK have continued to list regional stock below the revised manufacturer standard while supplies last.

AI Data Center Growth Drives up Component Costs

While Google did not immediately issue an official statement addressing the change when contacted by reporters, industry analysts tie the adjustments to a severe crunch in semiconductor memory supplies. The relentless construction of new artificial intelligence data centers has heavily depleted available RAM and storage inventories, driving up component acquisition costs for consumer hardware manufacturers.

Google’s mid-range shift arrives directly on the heels of similar moves by competitors. Samsung adjusted pricing upward across its Galaxy S26 lineup, while Apple implemented higher tags for recent iPhone hardware generations. Memory manufacturer Micron warned that the ongoing RAM shortage is expected to intensify through 2027 and 2028 with no clear end date in sight.

Higher Prices Clash with Old Hardware Specifications

The price adjustment alters the competitive calculus for Google’s A-series hardware, which has historically relied on aggressive affordability to attract budget-conscious buyers. Reviewers previously praised the hardware as the best option in the $500 range, according to PCMag’s evaluation, and later characterized the device as a well-rounded experience in assessments by 9to5Google.

However, paying an extra $100 introduces friction because the device retains the core specifications of its predecessor, including the two-generation-old Tensor G4 processor. With the base model now occupying the $599 tier once reserved for higher-capacity configurations, market observers note that buyers seeking lower entry costs may increasingly look toward remaining inventory of older hardware or competing mid-tier alternatives.
