The national field hockey championship organized by the Burkinabè federation took place on August 19 and 20, 2023 in Ouagadougou. « We imposed qualifications on the regions before coming to Ouagadougou. We have set up four qualification zones. We went around to oversee these championships. This allowed people to discover field hockey. Before, all teams were admitted, now you have to qualify to come to Ouagadougou ».

Idrissa praised the level of the championship with the balance of forces present. ” It’s a little hard for us. But, there is the international hockey federation which has promised to build us a grass field in Burkina. Finally, we will be able to practice real hockey in Burkina Faso said Idrissa Ouedraogo.

The teams that participated in the 2023 national championship are, for men: Galaxie hockey club (Ouagadougou), Espoir hockey club (Koudougou), Gounghin hockey club (Ouagadougou), Stick hockey club (Bobo-Dioulasso), Pissy hockey club (Ouagadougou ), Djibo hockey club, Elite hockey club (Koudougou), Boromo hockey club.
The best players were rewarded. Tondé Adjara was voted best goalkeeper among mixed teams. Donald Tiendrébéogo of Gounghin Hockey club is the best goalkeeper for men. Like last year Walter Bakala was voted best player while the trophy went to Rita of the same team for women. The Boromo team received the fair play award.
